Mindful Eating is finally getting the recognition it deserves as the sole credible means to lose weight and keep it off. It’s only through mindful habits that we can really become in tune with our body and turn on our internal calorie counter. All of us have this natural calorie counter that calls out to us and tells us what we need, but distractions and artificial food that sends mixed energy signals can keep us from listening to our body.
The new Mindful Eating App for the iPhone is a useful tool for developing mindful habits that can lead to very significant weight loss but more importantly a deeper and more satisfying relationship with food. The app at it’s heart is a daily food journal / diary. It allows you to take pictures of your food and describe your meal. Journaling is time tested and proven means to lose weight. To encourage mindfulness the app asks you to rate each meal in three categories: Hunger – how hungry you feel before the meal, Focus – how much attention you are really able to pay to your food, and Pleasure – How enjoyable you food is from the first bite to the last.
To keep you motivated there are “easter eggs” hidden in the app. Certain key words pop up with awards, as does different levels of weight loss. The awards can be shared on facebook so can the pictures, and even your location; which can be handy when you find a new rare food and you want to let other know how to find the spot.
